Online Roulette in Canada is one of the most popular live dealer casino games you'll find on the internet. It's a fast-paced game that's easy to understand and provides potential huge payouts to players.
Many people love to play roulette because they can risk a low amount of money and get big payouts based on the odds the game provides.
If you're just learning the game, it's important to understand how roulette pays out. With so many different bets you can make, this can sometimes be confusing.
Here's a simple explanation for how roulette pays out. Keep in mind that the payout odds are the same for both American Roulette and European Roulette. The only difference is the house edge.
Inside Bets
Inside bets are considered any wager that is made on the numbers on the roulette board. The other wagers that line the outside of the board are, naturally, called the outside bets -- which we'll get to next.
Bets on a single number pay 35-1. For every $1 you bet, you will be paid $35 for this wager. For example, if you wager $5 on the number 7 and it wins, you'll win $175.
With inside bets, you can also bet on multiple numbers at the same time. You do this by placing your chip on a line that splits two numbers, on a line that splits three numbers, on corner that splits four numbers, on a section that covers five numbers or on a line that splits six numbers.
The payouts for these differ based on how many numbers your bet is covering …
- Two numbers: 17-1
- Three numbers: 11-1
- Four numbers: 8-1
- Five numbers: 6-1
- Six numbers: 5-1
Inside bets are very popular among players because of the high payout. Keep in mind, though, that the payouts are so high because the odds of winning these wagers are low compared to other wagers you can make …
Single number: 2.7% European odds/2.6% American odds
- Two numbers: 5.4%/5.3%
- Three numbers: 8.1%/7.9%
- Four numbers: 10.8%/10.5%
- Five numbers: 13.5%/13.2%
- Six numbers: 16.2%/15.8%
As you can see, the lower the odds of winning, the higher the payout.
Outside Bets
The other category of bets you can make on a roulette board are outside bets. These wagers include larger groupings of numbers. The odds for these are much higher, with the house edge being lower. And, as a result, the payouts are a lot lower for outside bets than inside bets.
There are three main categories of outside bets. The first is called the column bet. This involves placing a wager on any of the three columns of numbers on the roulette board. Each of these columns has 12 numbers in it.
The payout for a column bet is 2-1. The European odds are 32.4%, and the American odds are 31.6%.
The second type of outside bet is called a dozen bet. These wagers also include 12 numbers, so the payout and odds for this category of outside bet are exactly the same as they are for a column bet. The three choices here are numbers 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36.
The third type of outside bet are called even bets. There are three subcategories of this type of bet -- red or black, odd or even, and 1-18 or 19-36. There are 18 numbers in each of these different categories. The payout for any of these bets is 1-1.
The European odds are 48.6% and the American odds are 47.4%.
The one extra feature of the roulette board happens when the ball lands on a green number (0 in European Roulette, and 0 or 00 in American Roulette). If you placed an outside bet and this happens, you will get half of your wager back. For instance, if you bet $10 on red and the ball lands in 0, you will get $5 back.
